A Dentist Focused On Prevention

Since earning his doctorate from Adams School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina in 2020, Dr. Porter has provided patients with general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry.

"Preventative care is the most important thing to me. If we can prevent a small problem from becoming a big problem, I’m happy. I find restorative work for complex cases very fulfilling, too, but preventative care is undervalued. If more people flossed, the volume of dentistry that people need would be a lot less. I want to try and encourage those habits."

Dr. Porter was originally on track to a career in business, but his love of science and working with people inspired him to change course toward a career in dentistry. Today, he treats patients alongside his father, Dr. Charles Porter.

Transforming Lives One Smile at a Time

He says his proudest achievement so far in his career involved helping a patient who had neglected his teeth for many years before finally deciding to get help.

"We went through many appointments and transformed the health and appearance of his smile. When he was finally able to talk again, and his missing teeth were no longer a distraction, I took a lot of pride in that."

As an expert in the field, Dr. Robert Porter has also published a book titled "The Dental Assisting Handbook: A How-To Guide For Confidence and Success".

Outside of the Office

Dr. Porter and his wife Emily have two young children. When Dr. Porter isn't providing dental care, he likes spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and enjoying the many aspects of living in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.
